Things to do in Madrid
There are many hotels in the centre of Madrid that offer great access to Madrid’s major landmarks and sights. The Museo del Prado is the national art museum of Spain and is located centrally on Paseo del Prado. It contains the finest works of Spanish art anywhere in the world, including pieces by Goya, Velazquez and El Greco amongst others.
The Plaza Mayor is one of Madrid’s most famous tourist attractions and is the ideal place to enjoy a meal and watch the world go by. Those looking to get away from the busyness of the city should head to Parque del Retiro to soak up the sun.
Sports fans will probably want to experience one of the greatest football teams in the world, Real Madrid, at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Whether it’s a stadium tour or taking in the atmosphere of a match, the stadium is easy to reach from all of the hotels in Madrid city centre. The Metro (Line 10) is the best way to get there.
The Madrid climate is mild during the winter and hot during the summer. The weather in Madrid in the summer boasts lots of sunshine and temperatures consistently above 30C. December and January are the coldest months and the temperature hovers around 10C during the day.
Many people consider the spring and autumn to be the best time to visit Madrid as the temperature is still pleasantly warm but not extreme. May and June and September and October are considered peak season and a lot of the city centre hotels in Madrid may be busy.
