As you know, we like to combine the relaxing holiday, sun and beach with cultural and leisure plans.
Thus, we suggest you discover the first cathedral and the first castle in America, located in Santo Domingo, the capital of Dominican Republic, just 30 miles from Boca Chica, where we can stay at the BelleVue Dominican Bay.
The Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica Santa María de la Encarnación Primada de América was consecrated in 1504 and in it, the remains of Christopher Columbus were housed for a while. It is built of limestone, with Gothic elements and twelve side chapels.
Meanwhile, the first castle is the Alcázar de Colón, which was build in 1511. It is a fortified Moorish palace in Gothic style but with other architectural features. Great conquerors, such as Hernán Cortés, passed through this fortification.
Doesn’t it seem magical to discover two of the most peculiar buildings of the Caribbean and with so much history behind them?
They can both be found in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, the oldest part of the city with centuries of history in its streets.
