The world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa celebrates its 10th anniversary

Since its opening in 2010, it has been a must-see attraction for the At the Top Burj Khalifa SKY experience

The Burj Khalifa, otherwise known Dubai’s “Vertical City”, was opened on January 4, 2010, to coincide with the fourth anniversary of the Accession Day of His Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as the Ruler of Dubai. With its towering 828 metres, it eclipses the Taipei 101 Tower (508 metres) in Taiwan as the tallest building in the world.

The iconic structure houses luxurious residential units, offices and restaurants and bars, as well as the At the Top Burj Khalifa SKY experience, which offers visitors a 360-degree view of the city from the highest outdoor observation deck in the world. Visitors can also savour exquisite dishes at the haute cuisine restaurant At.mosphere on the 122nd floor while enjoying the amazing views of the Arabian Gulf.

The Hymenocallis desert flower served as an inspiration for the construction of the iconic structure that honours the city with its extraordinary union of art, engineering and meticulous craftsmanship. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat has described it as a “global icon”, a recognition given only once every 10 or 15 years.

The construction of the more than 200 floors took only 1325 days. Excavation work began in January 2004, and Burj Khalifa’s construction used 330,000m3 of concrete, 39,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel, 103,000m2 of glass and 15,500m2 of embossed stainless steel.

Dubai's Burj Khalifa

At the foot of Burj Khalifa, we have the Dubai Mall, the largest shopping, entertainment and leisure destination on the planet and the Dubai Fountains, the largest choreographed fountain system in the world. Other triumphs include the Dubai Frame, the world’s largest photo frame and Ain Dubai, the world’s tallest Ferris wheel. Dubai is undoubtedly a city of records.
