Fun guaranteed in Puerto Plata

If your are travelling to Dominican Republic, our advice is to stay in Puerto Plata, perfect for those looking for something more than beach and sun. Puerto Plata stores places of remarkable beauty and has places of great historical and cultural attraction.

Its coastline is known as Costa del Ámbar (the Amber Coast) because of the fossil resin of pine trees that existed in the Tertiary and endowed the region with one of the largest deposits of amber in the world, a national treasure that imprisons ancient fossils.

In Puerto Plata, you will find one of the most complete destinations of the Dominican Republic, with white or golden beaches, Victorian houses, a historical area, the mountain of Isabel de Torres with its cable car, adventure tourism, etc… The spectacular stretch of beaches protected by coral reefs, known as Playa Dorada, is home to exclusive Hotel BlueBay Villas Doradas****, exceptional Adults-Only resort located next to an 18-hole golf course, and honoured with TripAdvisor Certificate of Excelence 2012 amongst many other international recognitions.

One of the best examples of fun in Puerto Plata is Ocean World Adventure Park. It crosses the boundary from being mere spectators. At Ocean World, precisely, the main trick is that you become an active part of what happens.

At Ocean World Adventure Park you have the opportunity to touch, pet and feed dolphins, sea lions, sharks, stingrays, exotic tropical birds, meet tigers, walk through a tropical rain forest and much more.

Ocean World Adventure Park emphasizes personal experiences between guests and marine animals through interactive programs.  There are only a handful of such facilities in the world, and none that rival the variety and quality that Ocean World Adventure Park provides.

Added, the ride up there means being able to visit the Brugal rum factory, the Dominican rum par excellence, a genuine symbol of the country and its food and drink. The son of a Spanish emigrant called Andrés Brugal Montaner started to produce this rum by a secret method in the middle of the XIX century, following his experience in rum distilleries in Cuba.

Brugal distilleries open their doors to visitors so they can see how the production plant works; at Brugal 360,000 bottles are produced each day. During the visit we will see that Brugal, despite using cutting edge technology in the  manufacturing process, has not lost its roots with tradition. This is one of the oldest factories in the country. Incredible as it may seem, part of the process is still carried out in the old fashioned way: by hand.

You will also see how Brugal only really tastes authentic in one place: at Puerto Plata where it was created and today is handed down from generation to generation.
