Dominican Republic: A destination filled with adventures in springtime

With an average temperature between 28 and 32 degrees Celsius and less rainfall than during the summer months, the Dominican Republic is a naturally lush destination all year round, but and even more so between the months of March and June,

It is the perfect location for adventure sports, which according to studies carried out by Booking.com is something many tourists are interested in, with up to 45% of respondents stating they would like to select unique and different experiences.

There will also certainly be time to enjoy its renowned beaches, but today we want to highlight what is on offer to get your adrenaline pumping away from its white sandy beaches.

  • El Limón Waterfall: The beautiful, crystal-clear water that cascades down from the Sierra de Samaná is what makes this 40-meter waterfall in the Samaná region famous.

To get to the waterfall you can opt for either a 2-kilometre hike or horseback ride through the forests and hills. Once there, you can choose to go canyoning through the river or simply enjoy a swim in the freshwater pool at the base of the waterfall.

  • Mountains and freshwater rivers in Jarabacoa: Jarabacoa is renowned for its mild climate, numerous rivers and lush green landscapes peppered with coffee plantations. An ecotourism destination where you can find some incredibly beautiful waterfalls, notably the 25-metre El Salto de Baiguate. You can also book a canyoning excursion and rappel down the waterfall.

  • Natural waters: A refreshing dip in one of the freshwater cenotes and lagoons in places like the Indigenous Eyes Ecological Reserve is another “must” away from sun-filled days at the beach.

  • Buggy tours: Many companies offer buggy rides that include a professional guide’s help, and the option of adding a chocolate or coffee tasting at an organic farm. Transfers to and from the hotel are included.

  • Horseback riding on the beaches of Puerto Plata: Depending on the company you hire; this activity lasts about three hours and can be done on the beach on in the mountains. After getting the horses at a ranch, your guide will then take you through the lush Dominican countryside. Pick up and return to the hotel are included.

  • Dance till dawn: OK, so it is not exactly an adventure sport, but it could very well turn out to be. Parties where you can dance the night away are the standard in Puerto Plata or Punta Cana, or you could head to the more chilled Cap Cana area to enjoy a cocktail by the beach or sample a taste of handmade tobacco.

As you can see, spring is the perfect time of the year to make the most of all the Dominican Republic has to offer. A country that is well-known for the joyful spirit of its people and its rich cultural traditions.

BlueBay Villas Doradas in Puerto Plata is an adults only, all-inclusive hotel that is the perfect spot to relax and unwind after a long action packed day of adventure. Spa services and natural treatments are also available during your stay.
