Enjoy stunning spring landscapes in Mallorca

Did you know that spring lasts 92 days in Spain? Given that temperatures are more bearable than in the summer, many people see the start of spring as the best time to travel. Colourful scenery is all around, and we start to see terraces and parks crowded with people taking advantage of the pleasant weather.

While spring by definition is beautiful, the Balearic Islands make it even more enticing. Even though the archipelagos do not typically experience cold weather, the winter months can be a bit chilly, especially in Mallorca, which has a more continental climate due to its proximity to France.

Mallorca is the most alluring island to visit precisely because of this. You can take in the breathtaking environment and find fantastic locations for hiking and adventure sports as the island is traversed by the Sierra de Tramontana mountain range.

Some of the top events on the island also start in April, with beach clubs and bars opening up again for the high season with their legendary fiestas blancas.

Here are some of our favourite activities to enjoy in Mallorca during the spring:

  • Dry Stone Route: This can be quite a challenging route. Measuring some 164 kilometres in length, the main route links the villages of Estellencs and Esporles for a total of 91.7 kilometres. This route is set in the Sierra de Tramontana mountain range, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO within the category of cultural landscape. The beauty of this trail is due to several factors, one being the abundance of dry stone constructions to form unique landscapes. Another is the rich fauna that provides shelter to many remarkable species such as the osprey, Elenora’s falcon, both exclusive to the Mediterranean, and the black vulture. While the flora in the area is dominated by holm oaks, and we also can see wild olive trees covering the less rainy hillsides.

This itinerary also offers you the opportunity to visit some beautiful towns and villages and emblematic buildings.

  • Cycle routes: Mallorca attracts 150,000 cyclists annually thanks to its attractive scenic routes that span everything from challenging climbs to easier routes with fewer hills more suited to beginners. The Mallorca 312 race, one of the biggest sporting events on the island, takes place in April and has recently drawn more than 7000 participants. There are 40 distinct, clearly marked cycle routes with more than 500 kilometres of breathtaking landscape available to cyclists.

  • Psicobloc: Although it may sound like a form of therapy, this sport has a long history on the island of Mallorca. This kind of rock climbing, also referred to as deep-water soloing (DWS), is carried out on sea cliffs that have already been outfitted. It should be noted that there are no grappling points and that if you fall, you will fall directly into the water, so this is not for the faint of heart.

  • Hot air balloon rides: While it is true that it is an activity we can enjoy all year round, spring is definitely the best time of the year. Flying in a hot air balloon is an incredible experience that allows you to witness stunning flowering landscapes at this time of the year when the wind is milder and more stable early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Contrary to what many people think, flying in a hot air balloon does not give you vertigo, and as the basket is stable, there is hardly any movement.

These are just a few of the examples of what Mallorca has to offer in spring. When it comes to relaxation, we recommend choosing a hotel with full facilities and several swimming pools where you can cool off after a day of outdoor activities.

BelleVue Club, in Alcudia, is an excellent option with functional and practical, recently renovated rooms and a wide variety of dining options to build up your strength after a day of adventure on the island.
